Inventor’s Fair Project 2008 • Grade 5

Invention Sites on the Web

You must do some research to make sure your invention is unique and original. Here are some web sites to help you get started.

•  Read this inspirational story by a real inventor who came up with her invention in fifth grade!

•  Use a Google search to go beyond my short list below.

•  The US Patent Office can help you think of a problem-solution and invention to solve your problem.

•  Project XL is VERY LONG, but scroll down to #12 - Enrichment inventors and their inventions. (Getting there quickly: Go to the EDIT menu, choose FIND; then, type in the word Enrichment, click on "enter" or "return". I had to choose FIND three times to get down to this section).

•  Invention Convention Steps for 4-6th Grade by Houghton-Mifflin.

•  Some books you can check out to give you ideas for your invention. Check with Mrs. Letourneau to see what might be available in our SMLS Library.

•  Student inventions from past Inventor's Fairs will give you some ideas and let you know what inventions have already been invented. Can you improve upon them?

•  The Inventor Archive of the Week is very good.

•  Totally Absurd Inventions
